Our Works
The Negeri1000Megalit website is a dedicated portal for prehistoric archaeology and related studies, with an emphasis on megalithic remains in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. This region is renowned as one of Southeast Asia’s most distinctive megalithic cultural centers, encompassing three principal valleys—Bada, Behoa, and Napu in Poso Regency—as well as parts of Sigi Regency.
The portal’s mission is to document, disseminate, and safeguard the megalithic sites of Central Sulawesi, ensuring their preservation for future generations. It compiles information from a variety of sources—including researchers, travelers, local residents, and cultural‐heritage communities—on prehistoric artifacts such as stone statues, menhirs, kalambas (large stone vessels associated with burial rites), and other lithic structures and symbols whose meanings remain under study.
Over time, the site’s scope may expand beyond strictly megalithic remains to encompass broader cultural and spiritual practices of communities that maintain a living connection with their ancestral heritage. Nonetheless, its core purpose remains the conservation and deeper understanding of Central Sulawesi’s megalithic culture.
Established as an initiative to preserve and share knowledge, Negeri1000Megalit is managed by a consortium of researchers at Tadulako University, the Central Sulawesi Provincial Tourism Office, the Central Sulawesi Provincial Cultural Office, and dedicated volunteers and editors specializing in archaeology, local history, and heritage preservation. The website also serves as an interactive platform for anyone wishing to contribute insights, experiences, or inquiries about the megalithic sites of Central Sulawesi.
